He takes listeners on an emotional journey whether he is singing an up tempo joint, a beautiful ballad or a soul wrenching gospel track, his voice is one of a kind. A thirty year music vet, Hollister started his career touring as a background singer, lending his vocals to such hits as 2Pac’s “Brenda’s Got a Baby” and “Keep Ya Head Up.” He then became a member of one of the Best Male R&B Groups of all time according to Complex Magazine; Blackstreet. Their self-titled debut album was certified platinum and introduced the world to the vocal brilliance of Dave Hollister. Soon after the release of their debut offering, Hollister decided to pursue a solo career not only as a singer but a songwriter and producer. Hollister's first recorded effort as a solo act, the Erick Sermon/Redman collaboration "Weekend," was featured on the movie soundtrack The Ride and released as a single in 1998. Hollister’s first full album was released in 1999 entitled Ghetto Hymns. This album was certified gold, rendering the top ten single “My Favorite Girl.” He went on to complete seven additional albums including the critically acclaimed “Chicago 85,” with its smash hit “One Woman Man.” Hollister describes his sound as classic R&B, but as a true vocalist he’s quick to tell you the story of how his voice matured. “Back in the days when I abused drugs and alcohol, my voice sounded strong, but it wasn’t. Now that I don’t do that anymore, my voice is truly stronger. I’m very, very blessed because a lot of people that did as much and partied as hard as I did lost their voices; God saw fit to preserve my voice and for that I am grateful.” DAVE HOLLISTER Producer | Songwriter | Recording Artist Dave Hollister 2015 Hollister Dave Biography (continued) In addition to his mainstream offerings, Hollister released “The Book of David: Vol. 1 the Transition” a gospel album which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Gospel Charts and joined fellow gospel artists Fred Hammond on his 2013 project, “United Tenors: Hammond, Hollister, Roberson, Wilson,” which landed at #1 on Billboard’s Gospel Album chart, and #39 on Billboard 200. His new spiritual offerings were one of the changes going on in Dave’s life. He also answered his call to the ministry and became the pastor of his own church; Word Assembly, a Family of Churches in California. “I’m not just an R&B or gospel artist,” Dave explains. “God has allowed me to be able to do both successfully. That’s the favor that He has put on my life,” said Hollister. In recent years Dave reunited with Teddy Riley and Blackstreet, successfully touring with the group for the last five years. He’s also been honing his acting skills, appearing in the Kim Fields-directed movie A Royal Birthday and several star-studded plays, including Issues: We All Got Em, directed by Latteras Whitefiled, A Fool and His Money, written and directed by David Talbert, and Me and Mrs. Jones, written and directed by J.D. Lawrence. Additionally, he was just named as a spokesperson for ZYPPAH – used for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). As one who struggles with this health challenge, it made since for him to join the campaign, along with other celebrities, to bring awareness to the chronic condition. Now working on new music, cultivating his acting career and collaborating with other artists, Dave Hollister is poised to take his career to new heights and expand an already successful body of work.
