Terra carries two sensing systems for which the LP DAAC has data processing and/or distribution responsibilities. the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). Numerous ASTER and MODIS data products are publicly available from the LP DAAC. LandsatLandsat ProgramProgram The longest-running enterprise for acquisition of moderate resolution imagery of the Earth from space. Landsat 1 was launched in 1972. The most recent, Landsat 7, was launched in 1999. Instruments on the Landsat satellites have acquired millions of images. These images form a unique resource for applications in agriculture, geology, forestry, regional planning, education, mapping, and global change research. LandsatLandsat ProgramProgram The objective of the Landsat Program is to ensure a collection of consistently calibrated Earth imagery. Landsat’s global survey mission is to establish and execute a data acquisition strategy that ensures repetitive acquisition of observations over the Earth’s land mass, coastal boundaries, and coral reefs; and to ensure the data acquired are of maximum utility in supporting the scientific objectives of monitoring changes in the Earth’s land surface and associated environment.
