Acacia Caesaneura X Incurvaneura

Acacia Caesaneura X Incurvaneura

WATTLE Acacias of Australia Acacia caesaneura Maslin & J.E.Reid x Acacia incurvaneura Maslin & J.E.Reid Family Fabaceae Notes This putative hybrid is described and discussed by B.R.Maslin & J.E.Reid, Nuytsia 22: 221 (2012). In A. incurvaneura the youngest 1–3 phyllodes of the new shoots are clearly resinous with the resin obscuring the underlying nerves and indumentum (although reddish glandular hairlets are sometimes embedded within the resin). The resin normally forms a smooth layer over the phyllodes, only rarely does it assume a striate appearance but even then the underlying nerves and white hairs of the indumentum are not visible. In A. caesaneura x incurvaneura the youngest 1–3 phyllodes of the new shoots are less resinous (ranging from not resinous to slightly resinous), they are commonly finely striate with white appressed hairs between the (often resinous) nerves. There are to two different morphotypes included within the circumscription of this putative hybrid. One is recognized by having some phyllodes that are clearly sinuous or wavy whereas the other has phyllodes that are shallowly incurved as in A. incurvaneura. This latter morphotype can easily be confused with A. incurvaneura but is recognized by its new shoot resin being absent or poorly developed and the resin on its branchlet ribs often being less well-developed, or with A. aneura but the presence of some opaque resin on the branchlets distinguishes if from that species.
