FAIRFIELD COUNTY EQUITY COURT RECORDS • A-, - 1807 - 1870 V This book has Genealogical Items found inFairfield County Equity Court Records. They were filmed by the Genealogical Society, Salt Lake City, Utah, in the Fall of1961. I have included the Genealogical Society's Film Number and the South Carolina State Archives BoxNumber. The Frame Number listed witheachentry is the number of the fi"ame onthemicrofilm located at thetopofthefilm and is included to help you locate the location ofthe various files. Equity Courts handled matters ofland partition, real property controversies, divorces, separations, foreclosure ofHens, debt disputes, etc. Most ofthese cases relate to partition ofland and thus give names ofheirs. Many times they give additional information such asoutofstate residence, dates ofbirth, deaths, marriages, deeds, plats and wills. Frequently they will tell how the land was required and some go back to the original grantor. This book contmns mainly information on heirs, dates ofbirth, deaths, marriages and any information found on out of stateresidences. Every efifort was made to be as accurate as possible, but many ofthe records were difficult to read either because oftheclarity ofthecopy or due to thehandwriting. Many names were often spelled differently in a bill, sometimes on the same page. Ifyou find your family, you should review the original records to check on accuracy and to see if there is additional information that was not include in the book. Jonathan E.
