Feb. 17 Domenico Ghirardelli Officer Elections In 1817, Domenico Ghirardelli was born in Rapallo, Italy, to an "exotic Feb. 17 foods importer" and his wife. Domingo Ghirardelli (he had February 16 changed his first name) had a general store in Hornitos, California, Concetta Newman between 1856 and 1859 where he perfected his chocolate recipes. The remains of the store can still be seen in town.
