HUDSON & MANHATTAN RAILROAD (Hudson Tunnel System) The Hudson Tunnels, connecting New York with New Jersey, have stations on the New York side as follows: 6th Ave. at 33rd St., 28th St., 23rd St., 19th St., 14th St., 9th St., Christopher St., bet. Hudson and Greenwich Sts., and the direct line from the Hudson Terminal at Cortlandt St. On the New Jersey side for trains marked Hoboken stations are: Exchange Place, Erie (Erie R. R. station), Hoboken Terminal (Delaware, Lackawanna & Western R. R. sta- tion); for trains marked Jersey City and Newark: Exchange Place, Grove St., Summit Ave., Manhattan Transfer (Pennsylvania R. R. station), Harrison, Park Place (Newark). Trains run every few minutes. ELEVATED RAILWAYS (Interborough Rapid Transit Co.) There are four elevated railway lines in New York: Third Avenue and Bronx Park Line:—From South Ferry to Bronx Park (Botanical Gardens) . Trains marked City Hall leave the main line at Chatham Square. A 34th St. branch extends from 3rd Ave. along 34th St. east to the Long Island ferry. A 42nd St. branch runs from 3rd Ave. along 42nd St. west to the Grand Central Station. Second Avenue Line:—From South Ferry to 129th St., where there is free transfer to the Third Avenue Line. Trains also cross the Queensboro Bridge and operate to Astoria and Corona. Sixth Avenue Line:—From South Ferry to Woodlawn. Trains leave 6th Ave. at 53rd St., crossing to 9th and Columbus Aves., and continue to 110th St., to 8th Ave., to Woodlawn. Line extends also from 53rd St. to 58th St. and 6th Ave. Ninth Avenue Line:—From South Ferry to Woodlaw^n during rush hours. Non-rush hour trains operate to 135th St. where transfer can be made to 2nd Ave. line. SURFACE CAR LINES Practically every avenue except Fifth Avenue, Park Avenue and 1 Riverside Drive has a surface car line running North and South. In the main, these lines travel the greater part of their route on the avenue from which they take their name. In addition to these routes there are Crosstown lines on the fol- lowing streets (only the more important are given): Crosstown:—Uh St., 14th St., 23rd St., 28th St. west to east t only, 29th St. east to west only, 34th St., 42nd St., 59th St., 86th i 10 .
