The Yellowstone River flows south to north through the county - turning east at Livingston. The county is rich with history and legend. There is evidence of continual habitation, dating back at least 11,500 years, in The Myers-Hindman site and another Paleo-Indian site known as the “Clovis Culture.” The Shoshoni can be identified in Park County about 1,000 A.D. after having moved north from Mexico. The Crow arrived in the area in the1600’s originating in the Midwest. In more modern times William Clark spent the night in what is now Livingston. John Bozeman was ambushed and died about10 miles east of town, and Calamity Jane maintained a home here.
