THE PACIFIC-ASIAN LOG Sixth Edition – July 2004 – by Country Introduction Acknowledgements This is the sixth edition of the Pacific Asian Log. First issued in August DX publications, DX Clubs, E-bulletins, e-mail reflectors, and web sites 2001, The PAL lists all known medium wave broadcasting stations in are my main sources of information. They include Arctic DX Club, southern and eastern Asia and the Pacific. See the comments column for information on off channel operations. To Location: Locations are as given in government lists, station/network the right of the frequency, I’ve noted stations which vary in frequency with web sites, or on-air announcement and may differ slightly from other lists. a v, those which are currently inactive with a *, and future stations (not yet A letter or number after the location indicates local program designation on the air) with an f. (for example, AIR stations in large cities). Call: The station's government-assigned call letters Region: The state, province, prefecture, oblast, county, borough, autonomous region, territory, island, etc. where the station is located. Network/ Slogan: This is generally the Network or Station name as announced on the air (or the English translation of it). Other language names BCC: Broadcasting Corp of China (Taiwan) are written in full. No language info usually means the station broadcasts Bctg, Bcing: Broadcasting (BC=Broadcast) in the country/region's dominant language(s), such as English in BS: Broadcasting Station Australia, Tagalog in the Philippines, etc. Ethnic means the station CBS: Christian Broadcasting System (Korea) broadcasts in several different languages. CBS: Central Broadcasting System (Taiwan) Schedule: All times are in UTC, except where noted (LT=local time). CNR: China National Radio Some schedules may shift by one hour during local summer. 24h means CRI: China Radio International 24 hours. Notations such as xxh/day mean the station is on the air xx EBS: Economic Broadcasting Station (China) hours per day, exact schedule is unknown. Days of the week are KBS: Korean Broadcasting System intended to be UTC, and may not be the same as local dates, i.e. 0100 KCBS: Korean Central Broadcasting Station (N Korea) local time on Monday in Japan is actually 1600 Sunday UTC. Some days LNR : Lao National Radio might be incorrectly shown as local rather than UTC. MBC: Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (South Korea) SW: Possible shortwave parallel, may not operate on the same schedule NBC: National Broadcasting Corp? (Papua New Guinea) as the medium wave station. // means SW or medium wave parallel. Net: Network News Networks/relays: BBC-British Broadcasting Corp., AP-Associated NHK: Nippon Hoso Kyokai (Japan) Press (US), NPR-National Public Radio (US), CNN/CBS - US news PBS: People's Broadcasting Station (China) networks, R.Aust-Radio Australia, ABC-Australian BCing Commission or R: Radio (RS:Radio Station) American BCing Company, RNZ-R New Zealand, DW-Deutsche Welle RGD: Renmin Guangbo Dientai (China) DA-Directional antenna (I.e. DA-S means beamed to the south), also RM: Radio Malaysia, RTM: Radio TV Malaysia noted as xxxdeg for some stations RRI: Radio Republik Indonesia r indicates a relay of another station. This is generally an unattended Rst.: Radiostantiya (Russia) repeater, such as most of the low powered NHK stations. In some cases, RTHK: Radio TV Hong Kong it refers to a station that relays another during part of its broadcast day. AUSTRALIA: Racing Radio: This network originates from 2KY-1017 in Sydney and mostly features horse racing and related programs. Other stations in the ABC Newsradio: a nationwide news network with outlets only in the network are 1008 Canberra, 1215 Bowral, 1314 Wollongong, 1341 major cities. Most locally produced rolling news, weather, sports, etc., but Newcastle, 1593 Murwillumbah, and many FMs.
