Personal Injury Insurance provides coverage for injuries sustained whilst participating in an activity under the following circumstances: An official match or training session. Travelling to or from an official club activity. Participating in an official club function. Tours or representative matches. What is generally covered: What is generally not covered: Physiotherapy x Doctor’s Fees Chiropractic x Surgeon’s Fees Dental x Anaesthetist’ Fees Non Medicare MRIs. x X-Rays Ambulance x Public Hospital Costs Private Hospital x MRI Scans (Medicare Claim) Accommodation In addition to the level of insurance cover that is automatically supplied through our registration, the club has undertaken to increase this cover to the higher "Gold" level which provides for a 90% rebate with a $50 excess. The automatic coverage provides for an amount of $250,000 if a player is made quadriplegic or paraplegic through a football injury. The club has now increased this level to $1,000,000. These upgrades give our players the best possible protection against serious injury and although quite a costly exercise, they have been done in the interests of player welfare. This coverage applies to all senior and junior teams. As you can see the big ticket items are not covered therefore the club’s committee urges every player to take out private health cover. Fit – Health Insurance (underwritten by GMHBA) has some excellent Hospital + Extras packages which are designed for sporting people. Remember, these packages cover you 24/7 for the entire year, not just football participation only. Dale Hunt is the club insurance manager so if you need to make a claim on JLT Personal Injury Insurance or you wish to sign up with Fit - Health Insurance for a complete 24/7 Hospital + Extras package please contact Dale. Dale Hunt – Mobile: 0498 483 817, email: [email protected] We also advise players to consider personal injury protection cover. Club Sponsor Davidson’s can offer free information and a PERSONAL quote from Graeme Crofts on 0419 209 194 or 5244 6864. 3 South Barwon Football & Netball Club Member’s Handbook Social Awareness Our club has identified the importance of major life issues away from football and netball. Led by David Barnes (club vice president) and aided by our Chaplin Alistair Maddock, the club has developed a program aimed at our junior age groups, (boys) under 16 and 18 and (girls) under 15 and 17. Program Opportunities included. 1. Development of individual leadership traits. 2. Awareness of drugs and alcohol issues--- Responsible Serving of Alcohol. Approximately 100 of our young players (girls and boys) have completed the course over the past two years at no cost to themselves. 3. Awareness of mental health issues----Read the Play Program and Beyond Blue’s Look/Listen/Learn program. 4. Looking after Mates program. Exposure to local and community network. 5. Racial and Religious Tolerance Policy – accept people as they are (refer to appendices at the back of this book) 6. An address to the junior section footballers on the meaning and importance of ANZAC Day commemoration by Geelong Vietnam Veterans. In recognition of the club’s efforts in addressing these issues we received an award in 2009 for the Most Outstanding Recreation Club and Well Being. The award was presented by the Barwon Region Mental Health Week Committee in conjunction with the Kardinia Rotary Club. Football and netball clubs are so much more than just playing football and netball these days. As a club we will strive to continue the development work that David and Alistair commenced this year, with an aim to make our players better people in our community. Please contact David Barnes on 0417 123 669 should you have any personal issues you would like to seek assistance or advice. 4 South Barwon Football & Netball Club Member’s Handbook Social Development As a club, SBF&NC takes pride in being recognised as a family club where supporters, players and visitors can come together and enjoy what the club has to offer, both competitively and socially.
