Professor C.J. Gatrell Proposer: T: 07875 071 939 Commodore L.C. Hopkins Royal Navy E: [email protected] Seconder: Major J. Davies (Retd) PROFILE Professor Caroline Gatrell As a long-standing and committed member of the RAG, I seek first and foremost to serve members. I wish to sup- port the Board in envisioning a bright and secure future for the Club. At the same time, I would be keen to value and honour the ethos of care for others which has, for many years, typified the RAG. As a Senior Professor and Associate Dean for Research at University of Liverpool (Management School), I offer experience of managing and understanding both people and processes. I am presently responsible for a vital strategic function within the Management School. This requires me to govern and allocate a considerable annual operating budget. I also Chair a Board of 18 Universities across Northern England, with a remit for convening advanced research train- ing for academics. This role encompasses responsibility for raising and controlling a generous, shared budget: the ‘buck’ stops with me. In previous roles, I have been University lead (both for Liverpool and Lancaster Universities) on a doctoral research Board, awarding bursaries up to a value of millions. As a senior academic responsible for overseeing major expenditure, I prioritise transparency, excellent governance, and wise and fair spending. Such skills and attributes would be most valuable to the RAG Board, in representing the interests of both members and staff. Board membership requires careful decision making about the precious resource to which we have all contributed, and which belongs to all of us, and I bring experience of such skills. In my Professorial role I have also been responsible for raising monies on behalf of Liverpool (and formerly Lancas- ter) Universities. I have a high success rate at gaining funding. This track record of sourcing money would be useful to the RAG, given that finding and innovating new sources of funding will be important for the future. In relation to public service I served for three years as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors at a Church of England Primary School. I have a been a committed member of the RAG since 2000; my father (Captain Max Simon) was a member from the 1970’s until 2017 when he passed away, age 93. I seek the best for our members, our staff and for the future of the Club. If elected to join the Board I would seek to operate in a manner which is open, fair, and always in the interest of members.
