Its legal structure is that of charitable trustee or trust corporation with perpetual succession. The main activities of the RCB involve management of investments, administration of trusts and Gift Aid, payment of stipends and pensions, property and legal transactions and treasury management as well as supporting the core work of the Church by providing finance for the sustentation of the clergy and pensioners, training of ordinands, education, youth, communications etc. The RCB Library is the repository for the archives of the Church and the Library for the Church of Ireland Theological Institute and the Church at large. The committee structure is designed to reflect these activities and responsibilities. The ex-officio members are the archbishops and bishops, the elected members consist of one clerical and two lay representatives for each diocese and the co-opted members consist of persons equal in number to the number of dioceses. (See also Constitution of the Church of Ireland Chapter X). The Representative Body is composed of the following sixty members, shown with recorded attendance figures for the four meetings held during 2017. Two Honorary Secretaries of the General Synod are in attendance at meetings.
