Situation Overview Continuous rains is being experienced in the Visayas Region and some parts in Mindanao which caused flooding in the provinces of Bohol (Region VII), Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte (Region VIII) and Misamis Oritental (Regions X). Tornado occurrence was experienced in Banga, South Cotabato (Region XII) Landslide occurred early this morning at Brgy. Cabalawan in Tacloban City burying the house of Jordan Family. Seven (7) members of the Jordan Family were buried alive and was confirmed dead by the DOH8. Landslide in Tacloban and Palo, Leyte rendered some roads not passable Families affected by the flooding evacuated to higher grounds while others opted to stay with their relatives in the nearby areas. Pre-emptive evacuation was implemented in some barangays in Palo, Leyte and Samar due to impending flashflood. Other residents were also alerted for force evacuation if weather condition in their area worsened. II. Effects A. Casualties Seven (7) members of the Jordan Family were buried alive in Brgy. Cabalawan, Tacloban City, they were identified as follows: Marlon Jordan, 35 years old Genita Jordan, 35 years old Angelita Jordan, 14 years old Marita Jordan John Paul Jordan John Rey Jordan, 4 years old Hernie Jordan, 3 years old C. Damages o Fifteen (15) houses were reported damaged (1 totally and 14 partially). Totally damaged houses were swept away by flood and tornado. Region VII o An estimated area of 10 hectares of rice fields were damaged by the flood and inundated the riverside areas in Bohol D. Status of Lifelines Region VIII o Mahaplag – Sogod Road in Southern Leyte was closed to traffic and rendered not passable to all types of vehicles due to landslide along Maharlika Road km 1009+700 (dampou) to km1018+800 (sawong). Alternate route for Southern Leyte is the Abuyog-Silago Road and Mahaplag-Baybay-Bato-Sogod-Libagon Road. Clearing operations was stopped due to unfavourable weather condition. o Baybay to Mahaplag was also closed to traffic due to impending landslide in the area. Detour route is Baybay to Bato and Junction Hima-angan road to Silago- Abuyog Road going to Tacloban. o Bridge in Brgy. Mahayahay in Sogod, Southern Leyte is not passable to all types of vehicles o Road in Brgy. Patani, Paranas going to Eastern Samar rendered not passable to all types of vehicles due to landslide o The Municipality of San Jose de Buan in Samar experienced power outage since 15 March 2011. III. Actions Taken: RDMMCs concerned are continuously monitoring the situation in their respective areas. Region VII LDRRMC Bohol and their local PNP personnel advised residents to evacuate to higher grounds and are continuously monitoring the situation. Municipal Social Welfare and Development immediately distributed relief goods to the affected families 2 Region VIII DPWH personnel conducted clearing operations at the landslide area while local PNP conducted traffic assistance to motorists in Sogod, Southern Leyte. MDRRMC San Jose de Buan in Samar facilitated the evacuation of affected residents and attended to their immediate needs 34IB PA, LDRRMC San Jose Buan constructed tents in Brgys. 1 and 4 Poblacion to be used as temporary shelter of the evacuees. PRO8 deployed 2 units of M35 trucks for rescue operations in Tacloban City while Liason-PA also deployed 2 units M35 trucks for rescue operations in Palo, Leyte Region X and XIII CDRRMC El Salvador, Misamis Oriental and MDRRMC Banga, South Cotabato conducted RDANA to the affected areas. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3.
