Dr. Charan Singh is Visiting Faculty in the Economics & Social Sciences area of IIM Bangalore. His research and teaching areas include Monetary, Fiscal, Debt Management, International Reserves, Financial Markets, Banking, and Infrastructure. Prior to joining IIMB, he served as Senior Economist at the IEO of IMF from 2009-2012. He was Director (Departments: Research; Debt Management) at the RBI from 1997-2009 where he had joined in 1984 as a Research Officer in the Economic Policy Department. Earlier, he was Management Trainee with Punjab National Bank. His recent Consulting is at International Monetary Fund and World Bank. His current interests are mainly Fiscal and Monetary Policy, including Debt Management, International Reserves and Sovereign Wealth Funds. He was RBI Chair Professor (Dec 2012 to Dec 2016) at IIM Bangalore. His research is published in different academic journals like Economic and Political Weekly, Prajnan, RBI Occasional Papers, Indian Journal of Economics, Indian Journal of Economics and Business, Yojana, etc. He has also contributed articles in book volumes. He contributes in public debates through TV channels like Bloomberg, CNBC, NDTV, CNN-IBN, Rajya and Lok Sabha TV. He also writes articles for daily newspapers like The Hindu, Indian Express, Hindustan Times, The Tribune, Deccan Herald, Deccan Chronicle, Eenadu, and for economic papers like Economic Times, Business Standard, Business Line, Financial Express, and MoneyControl.com. He has an edited book on debt management, published by Springer, to his credit. He won the Dewang Mehta National Education Award – Best Professor in Economics in 2015. He also won the Rashtriya Gaurav Award – 2015 from the India International Friendship Society. He now serves as Director on Boards of National Housing Bank, Delhi and NABARD Financial Services Ltd, Bangalore. He is also Member, Research Advisory Committee, BIRD, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development; Honorary Fellow, SKOCH Development Foundation; and Member of the Informal Advisory Group on Housing Sector Issues, IMF, Washington DC and member of CII Karnataka State Council since 2015. .
