Welcome from Bicycle Network Professional cyclists feel like rock stars when people line the streets to cheer them on. But the best the rest of us can hope for is a fist bump from a riding partner or loved one who understands we just achieved something amazing. Things will be different this year in Orange. For the first time riders will be finishing down the main street and be greeted with a hero’s welcome as they roll across the line into Robertson Park. It’s obviously a huge step forward for the people of Orange to so generously share their beloved town with people on bikes. It shows what in three short years has become so special about this event: the local hospitality. Australians who go to Europe to ride their bike often speak of how welcome they feel. With Orange fast becoming a must ride destination, bike riders no longer have to endure a horrifying 24- hour plane trip to feel special. European style riding with a unique Aussie flavour is just a few hours away in Orange. Thank you to all the riders for joining us for the 2019 Newcrest Orange Challenge. And thank you to everyone who has gone above and beyond to make sure that for one weekend anyone on a bike feels like a star. Introduction Bicycle Network is Australia’s largest bike riding group representing almost 50,000 members and working to make it easier for people to ride a bike. We support people who ride by working with governments and advocating for better places to ride and the introduction of more supportive legislation. Our Ride2School, Ride2Work and Parkiteer programs introduce people to riding and help them get started. Our members enable us to do this, and we help them with comprehensive bike riding insurance, legal support and assistance whenever they need it. We also love to celebrate the fun and joy of bike riding and get to do this at our unique events, including our Aussie classic, the Newcrest Orange Challenge. Evolving from a small single-distance ride in 2016, more than 1,500 riders now join us each March to take on one of three routes through New South Wales’ stunning Central West. Whether you’re new to riding, or are on the bike every other day, we know you’ll love this event. With stunning scenery, great rural hospitality, a challenging ride and a cold drink at the end of the day, there’s not much more you could ask for. The Newcrest Orange Challenge wouldn’t be possible without the support of the local communities and event partners who share their world with us for a weekend. As well as the riders who join us, we’d like to thank Newcrest Mining, Destination NSW, Orange Daybreak Rotary, Orange City Council, Cabonne Council, Blayney Shire Council, Cowra Shire Council, NSW Police and NSW Ambulance for their ongoing support. 6 Bicycle Network Members Members help us do what we do.
