1 Gloucester has changed significantly over the last 10 years, attracting over £900 million of investment. Gloucester City Football club granted consent to construct a new stadium within the city. 8 Our heritage is a fundamental part of the City and we are working hard to integrate it successfully with our regeneration targets. We have been able to deliver the external lighting of some of our exceptional buildings, adding to the atmosphere of Gloucester as part of our night-time and evening economy initiatives. Llanthony Secunda Priory (a former Augustinian priory) has recently received a £3M Heritage lottery award for major renovation works. Gloucester Cathedral is delivering a £6M project to create a world class public square in front of the Cathedral. The Cathedral has also fitted photovoltaic cells on its roof, arguably the oldest building in the world to benefit from such an installation. The Discover DeCrypt project in the city centre has also been granted £1.4m of HLF stage two funding. 9 We recognise the impact of events on the economic wellbeing of the city. We have a highly successful events programme which includes our signature event, the Tall Ships Festival, which brings in over 120,000 visitors. Following the success of our Scrumpty Trail this year we will follow a similar theme but using the Henson Pig Trail – a Gloucester Old Spot Pig named after the rare breed expert Joe Henson (father of TV star Adam) This summer Little Mix and Sir Tom Jones will perform at Gloucester Rugby’s Kingsholm Stadium. 10 Regeneration isn’t just about large scale projects. We also have a list of smaller properties which we are pressing hard to regenerate by giving support, encouragement and occasionally grants, to owners and developers. Collectively this adds up to many millions of pounds of investment. 11 12 .
