Scouting The Red Storm: St. John's has posted a 7-3 record in non-conference play this season. The Red Storm will open the BIG EAST season on December 29 at West Virginia. First-year Head Coach Steve Lavin starts fi ve seniors and has two others coming off the bench. Guard Dwight Hardy leads the squad in scoring (15.5 ppg). Forward Justin Burrell is the team's top rebounder (5.9 rpg). Friars vs. St. John's, The Series: St. John's holds a 55-42 edge in the series with PC, however, Providence has won 12 of the last 13 contests, dating back to 2001. The teams have met every year since the 1969-70 season. The Friars hold a 23-19 edge at home, while St. John's has a 30-15 edge in New York, while also holding a 6-4 edge on neutral courts. Friars All-Time Versus Top-25 Teams: Providence's game versus Syracuse on December 28 will be the team's fi rst contest this season against a ranked opponent. The Friars have posted a 98-218 (.310) mark all-time versus top-25 teams. PC's most recent win over a ranked team was an 81-66 win over No. 19/19 Connecticut on January 27, 2010 at Providence. The Friars' last win over a ranked team on the road was a 66-56 win at No. 4/4 UConn on January 24, 2004. Last Time Out: Senior Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) scored a team-best 25 points to lead the Providence College men's basketball team to an 84-76 victory over Sacred Heart on December 21 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Brooks also pulled in 12 rebounds to tie a career-high as he recorded his sixth double-double on the year. The guard also scored 25-points or more for the seventh-consecutive game. Sophomores Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Bilal Dixon (Jersey City, N.J.) also fi nished in double fi gures, fi nishing with 16 and 11 points, respectively. With the win, PC improved to 10-0 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center this season. In the second half, the Friars opened up a 65-53 advantage at the 12-minute mark and appeared to have the game in hand. Sacred Heart would not go away as it cut the Friars' lead to three (73-70) with 4:34 remaining in the game, outscoring the Friars 17-8 during the stretch. The Pioneers also held the Friars without a fi eld goal for nearly four minutes to climb back into the game. Duke Mondy snapped the Friars' scoreless streak as he connected on a 3-pointer from the corner to make the score 76-60 with 3:33 remaining.
