www.AuroraHealthCare.org What to Pack for Labor, Birth, Postpartum and Going Home When preparing for the birth of your baby, the following things may be of help to pack and bring to the hospital: Goody bag (for labor) Miscellaneous: For mom’s comfort: • Phone numbers, telephone calling card, • Robe and slippers for walking in early labor people to notify of birth (hospital gowns available) • Change/money for vending machines • Warm non-skid socks (hospital provides) • Notify insurance company of your admission, • Toiletries (shampoo, soap, deodorant, body lotion) bring your ID and insurance card with you • Barrette/band for long hair • Copy of birth plan • Contact lens case and/or eyeglasses • Optional items you may want to bring • Mouthwash/toothbrush/toothpaste – Camera/video recorder loaded with film, • Brush/comb new batteries and battery charger – Laptop computer For coping with labor: – MP3 player, other video options • Focal point: baby toy, object, picture • Portable CD, MP3 player or iPod Postpartum • Deck of cards, magazine, book • Two or three nightgowns/nursing gowns • Paper, pencil if you choose (hospital gowns provided) • Sour lollipops • Nursing or regular bras • Lip balm for dry lips • Cosmetics • Lotion, oil, massage tools • Going home outfit: • Pillows with colored pillowcases – Mom: comfortable clothing • Hand fan – Baby: blanket, sleeper, sweater, undershirt, • Stress ball heavy blanket if it is cold • Car seat – know how to put it in your car For husband/partner/support person: www.seatcheck.com • Mouthwash, toothbrush, toothpaste 866-seat-check (866-732-8243) • Extra change of clothes • Birth announcements • Nutritious snack(s)/beverages • Baby book (footprints) and/or journal • Medications • Sleeping attire/boxers • Swim shorts for whirlpool tub/shower The information presented is intended for general information and educational purposes.
