ARCANGELO Ensemble Period instrument Arcangelo’s collective energy and spirit have generated a flood of five-star reviews, sparked audience ovations and prompted invitations to perform at the world’s leading venues and festivals. The band, which has taken the musical world by storm since its creation in 2010, comprises outstanding young musicians under the dynamic leadership of its Artistic Director and founder Jonathan Cohen. Its ethos is ruled by a determination to apply the deep listening skills and artistry of chamber music making to every piece in its repertoire, from intimate ensemble pieces to works for chamber orchestra. In addition to numerous appearances at Wigmore Hall, where it was the first named Baroque Ensemble in Residence, Arcangelo has appeared by invitation at Carnegie Hall, the Salzburg Festival, the Koeln Philharmonie, the Wiener Konzerthaus and at the BBC Proms. The group’s extensive discography of over 20 recordings has received international acclaim including a GRAMMY nomination, two Gramophone Awards, and ECHO Klassik Award and a BBC Music Magazine Award. The group’s uniquely collaborative and supportive ethos makes it a prized collaborator for soloists, with notable concert and recording partnerships including Kate Lindsey, Nicolas Altstaedt, Iestyn Davies, Alina Ibragimova, Vilde Frang, Tim Mead, Christiane Karg and Anna Prohaska. Arcangelo also runs the Arcangelo New Ensemblists scheme, launched in 2020, which provides uniquely intensive and wide-ranging early career support to outstandingly promising period instrumentalists.
