Create Your Own Omer Calendar Long ago, ancient Israelites brought an omer of barley to the Temple in Jerusalem as an offering on the second day of Passover. Today, we count the days from the second day of Passover until Shavuot, the time of the ancient wheat harvest. The counting of the Omer links the holidays of Pesach and Shavuot. We count 49 days, and the fiftieth day is Shavuot. The thirty-third day of the Omer – Lag B’Omer – is a special day in the Omer. On that day, it is said, a plague ended that was killing the students of Rabbi Akiva.
