It has been owned by the Henderson family for almost 100 years and is well known for its traditional walled garden and arboretum. The West Woodhay Estate has an extensive arable operation, as well as a large sheep flock, managed woodlands and a successful shoot. The West Woodhay Countryside Day for Schools will include the walled vegetable garden, bees, sheep and sheepdogs, crops and farm machinery. The Countryside Day is offered free of charge, and is coordinated by Country Trust Hampshire. The Countryside Day for Schools is a unique opportunity for pupils to learn about a traditional countryside estate and its place within the community now and in the past. Activities are led by staff from the Es- tate enabling the pupils to meet and learn from the experts who work, manage and care for the farm animals, woodland, arable fields and gardens. Each activity is designed to enable pupils to get as hands on as is safely possible, as they learn about how the countryside must be managed to ensure that it has a sustainable future. Format of the Countryside Day: The exact On site facilities details of the activities will be confirmed during the teacher planning meeting, and Coach and mini bus parking can be altered to meet schools’ specific needs. Classes will spend 30 minutes at each activity. They will enjoy 3 activities in the Toilets morning and 3 in the afternoon.
