The current ICMAT 2017 is the 9th one in the series. Each and every edition of this conference series B.V.R. Chowdari remained as a premier scientific platform for both local Organizing Chairman, ICMAT 2017 and international materials scientists, engineers and & President, MRS-S technologists to share their expertise and knowledge. 15 May 2017 The highlights of ICMAT 2017 are: 30 technical symposia covering almost all the aspects of Materials Science, Engineering and Technology, 10 plenary lectures, 4 theme lectures, 3 Nobel Laureate public lectures, about 600 invited lectures, 900 contributed- and 650 poster- presentations, exhibition, graduate student- and poster- awards and conference banquet. The lining up of such an impressive presentations stands as a testimony for the trust the materials community has developed over the years for ICMAT series. This could only be possible with the dedicated efforts of each Symposium Chair and Co-Chairs, and the overwhelming support and participation of students and faculty from practically every organization pursuing research in materials science in Singapore and elsewhere. The Proceedings of most of the various symposia will be published either as special issues of reputed international journals or stand-alone volumes of open access journals (e-proceedings) after due process of refereeing with guest editors chosen from the organizing committees. Several Graduate Student- and Poster- Awards are instituted to recognize and encourage the excellence; particularly among students. The ICMAT series are organized in association with the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research 2 ICMAT 2017 9th International Conference on Materials for Advanced Technologies PREFACE (A*STAR) with the support of Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau. We are thankful to each of these institutions for their long-standing association with this conference series. A special mention must be made of the generous sponsorship provided by NTU as a Grand Premier Sponsor and NUS as a Premier Sponsor for which we are grateful. We appreciate the support rendered by other Sponsors, Supporters and Exhibitors in making the conference financially viable. We are grateful to Prof. Bertil Andersson, President of NTU, and Prof. Freddy Boey, Deputy President and Provost of NTU, for their overwhelming encouragement and support in organizing ICMAT 2017. Thanks to Prof. Bertil Andersson for gracing the opening ceremony of the conference as the Guest of Honour and inaugurating the same. We are equally thankful to Prof. Tan Chorh Chuan, President of NUS, for his long-standing support and also for being the Guest of Honour at the Conference Banquet. Thanks are also due to Prof. Freddy Boey for being the Guest of Honour at the Concluding Session and giving away the Graduate Students- and Poster- Awards. He and several other members of the National Advisory Committee have graciously agreed to Chair the Plenary/Theme/Nobel Laureate Public Lectures for which we are deeply thankful. Thanks to all the members of the MRS-S Executive Committee, ICMAT 2017 Organizing Committee and the International- and National- Advisory Committees for their advice and help. Chairs and Co-Chairs of the concerned Symposia have done an excellent job of putting together an exciting technical program. It is my pleasure to place on record our sincere thanks to the Chair of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU Prof. Subbu Venkataraman for hosting the office of MRS Singapore and providing the necessary logistic support for both MRS-S and ICMAT conferences. A special mention is to be made of Prof. Feng Yuan Ping, Technical Chair, who is always available to handle complicated technical and organizational matters. The support of Mr. Ivan Boo and Ms. Lee Fong from INMEET CMS Pte Ltd for providing excellent Conference Secretarial service is greatly appreciated. It is their patience and dedication to their work that enabled the smooth running of the entire conference organization process. 3 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE Conference Chairman: Hongjin FAN Santiranjan SHANNIGRAHI Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Institute of Materials Research & Engineering, B.
