Lily Madigan A Constituency Labour Party Women’s Officer, Lily was the first transgender person to hold this title - she has been featured in many high- profile interviews, including the BBC. Aderonke Apata A Feminist Human Rights Activist, she won a 13-year battle to be granted asylum in the UK, whilst facing homophobia from the British legal system. Dr Elly Barnes MBE The Founder and Chief Executive of the charity Educate & Celebrate, she was listed as No. 1 in The Independent on Sundays Pink List 2011 for her commitment to LGBT in education. She is the Shadow Minister for Housing and Planning, and a long-time supporter of and contributor to the Durham Union. Professor Paul Salveson MBE Politician, activist and author, he is currently a Visiting Professor in Transport and Logistics at the University of Huddersfield. He has stood as a candidate for the Yorkshire Party, and has published a book: Socialism with a Northern Accent. A representative of the Scottish Nationalist Party (TBC) OPPOSITION Sir David Amess MP A Conservative Party politician. He has been an MP since 1983, first for Basildon, and since 1997 for Southend West. A notable Brexiteer, he was a key supporter of Leave Means Leave, a pro-Brexit campaign. Alex Burghart MP Conservative Member of Parliament for Brentwood and Ongar, first elected in 2017. Prior to this, he worked as a teacher, university lecturer and special adviser to the Prime Minister.
