2019 Stream Maintenance Program Improving water quality in our streams while providing flood protection for our community This summer the Sonoma County Water Agency LOCATIONS OF STREAM WORK (Sonoma Water) will be working in streams and channels throughout Sonoma County to 2019 SEDIMENT 2019 VEGETATION improve water quality and provide flood REMOVAL PROJECTS MANAGEMENT PROJECTS protection. As part of our comprehensive Stream Maintenance Program (SMP), we will be Zone 1A Zone 1A removing sediment and garbage and planting Austin Creek Austin Creek trees to create shady riparian canopies. These Brush Creek Reservoir Bellevue Wilfred Channel canopies help cool the water and shade out less College Creek Brush Creek desirable species of plants, which can catch Cook Creek Colgan Creek debris and reduce the streams’ water-carrying Copeland Creek Copeland Creek capacity. If necessary, we will remove some Five Creek Cotati Creek non-canopy forming trees such as arroyo Laguna de Santa Rosa Crane Creek willows as well as certain dense shrubs such as Matanzas Creek Reservoir Five Creek Piner Creek Reservoir Fulton Creek non-native and invasive blackberries. Sediment Santa Rosa Creek Hinebaugh Creek removal activities include planting native trees, Santa Rosa Creek Reservoir Laguna de Santa Rosa shrubs, and some aquatic plants according to a Wilfred Channel Matanzas Creek certain pattern to establish canopy while Middle Brush Creek maintaining channel capacity.
