WEDNESDAY - NOVEMBER 2 - PRETTYBOY RESERVOIR AT GEORGE'S CREEK - 5M We will loop around for about 5 miles along George's Creek, Prettyboy Reservoir, and the woodlands. There are some inclines and several small stream crossings. MEET: 10:00 A.M.. at parking area on west side of bridge on George's Creek Rd. in Baltimore County. Take the Mt. Carmel Rd. exit 27 heading west off I-83 north of the Baltimore Beltway. Turn right onto Foreston Rd. with the sign for Friendly Farms. Continue on the road winding around and turn left onto George's Creek Rd. Cross the bridge over George's Creek and park in the parking area on the right. There are no bathroom facilities. MW WEDNESDAY-NOVEMBER 2- LIBERTY RESERVOIR: OAKLAND TRAIL- 7/8 M This is an out and back hike with some hills but no stream crossings. Hike will be at a moderate pace of about 2.5 mph on mostly fire roads and some foot paths. Pretty water views and a visit to the ruins of a 19 th century water mill. Leave: 10:00 AM from 35 South Lake Way, Reisterstown, MD 21136. From 695 take exit 18 west, Liberty Road. Go 4.75 miles to a right on Deer Park Road. Go 5.4 miles to end of Deer Park Road (must turn left at stop sign after 3.2 miles to continue on Deer Park). WEDNESDAY - NOVEMBER 2 - APPALACHIAN TRAIL ACROSS MD SERIES - 8M ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED One of a series of 9 hikes on the Appalachian Trail across Maryland. An out and back hike of a total of 8 miles going north from Gathland State Park to White Rock overlook via Bear Spring Cabin. Total elevation gain is 950' with the longest climb of 450' over 1.5 miles. Pace averages 2.5 miles per hour. CARPOOL COST: $5.00. SATURDAY - NOVEMBER 5 – APPALACHIAN TRAIL SERVICE TRIP This trip will be to High Rock to remove the graffiti on the trail and do treadway improvements. The work site is about 1/3 mile from the parking lot. We also need to have blazes painted. Treadway improvement through some very rocky sections will be by creating crush & fill plus hauling dirt about 1/4 mile to stabilize the fill. Expect 5 to 7 hrs. moderate labor. Mostly level. DIRECTIONS: From the north: take B/W Parkway South to the Route 32 exit towards Ft Meade (east). Approximately one mile, exit 8 for Route 198. You will exit into a circle, take the first road out of the circle on Route 198 towards Laurel and travel about 1.5 miles. SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 12 - PRETTYBOY RESERVOIR - GUNPOWDER LOOP/HEMLOCK GORGE - 9.5 M/H ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED Join us as we hike at the top of the Reservoir on the Gunpowder River. This will be a different hike on many different trails then in previous years. We will start on a fire road to a point up river passed Hemlock Gorge to see the remains of a mill/bridge. After going to the graveyard that dates back to the 1700s we will go to the cave on the north side, flashlight recommended (biggest cave in Baltimore County – pictures on Google Earth) and go to the Betty’s Run waterfall. We will continue on fire roads (different trails) and after seeing River Valley Ranch will continue on the south side of the river and end with the Hemlock Gorge loop, an unusual river gorge that makes you feel like you are in New England. CARPOOL COST: $2.00 SUNDAY - NOVEMBER 13 - PVSP OELLA HIKE – 6M This 6 mile Sunday morning hike in Baltimore County provides a brisk morning hike that starts in Oella and returns in time to watch the football games. We will hike at a pace of about 2.5 mph, much of the time along the Patapsco River, and encounter a couple of steep but relatively short climbs. We will pause for a short snack break on the way, and should return to the starting point around noon. LEAVE: 9:15 AM from the trail head at the end of St. Johnsbury Road in Oella. From I-695, take Exit 13 and follow Frederick Road (Route 144) west for about 4 miles. Before crossing the River, turn right on Westchester Ave (before the Trolley Stop). Go 1.1 miles and at the Oella Ave intersection, make a slight jog to the left as you cross and continue on Westchester. In .7 miles, turn left on St. Johnsbury Road. At the end of St. Johnsbury (.2 miles), park along the street.
