Taylor, Laura From: Jennifer Bates > Sent: 22 March 2018 17:19 To: reviews Subject: Boundary Consultations I have just read your article in Henstridge’s Wot’s On (the delivery of the magazine was delayed for a number of reasons including new editors) and have to say I am uneasy about the proposed Ward Boundary changes. I am a churchwarden of St. Nicholas Church Henstridge, and we are in a Benefice with two other churches ‐ St. Mary’s in Templecombe and St. John’s in Horsington. (Currently we are organising a joint Benefice Profile for a new Rector ‐ our previous one having retired in the late autumn. We expect a new Rector to be appointed in the late summer.) These three (or four) villages work well together ‐ Henstridge, Abbas and Templecombe, and Horsington with North Cheriton. They are very close to each other (Templecombe is one and a half miles north of Henstridge and Horsington is a further two miles north of Templecombe), and work well. For Henstridge to be linked with Milborne Port (almost 4 miles away) and Charlton Horethorne (almost 7 miles away) is too far distant for these villages to be linked together: when they were joined in a Benefice with Henstridge in the past, it did not work nearly so well because of the distances between them. When distances are this great, co‐operation would be limited and to my mind would be a retrograde step. We would much prefer the Ward Boundaries to stay as they are, since size is only one aspect that needs to be considered. Relationships such as this take many years to develop, and any detrimental impact brought about by the proposed boundary changes would have serious consequences for the residents of Rimpton. Our village is well matched by other villages nearby which would remain in Blackmore Vale or the adjacent Milborne Port Ward. Our representation by our current Ward Councillors is excellent and consistent with our connection to those local villages. I believe it would be very detrimental to the interests of Corton Denham to be transferred to Ivelchester ward. Yours Sincerely, C J Bunker 1 Taylor, Laura From: Julia Bunker Sent: 09 March 2018 10:13 To: reviews Subject: South Somerset DC Ward Boundary Consultation Dear Sirs, I am very concerned that it is proposed to move our parish of Corton Denham into the Ivelchester Ward from Blackmore Vale. I object to this proposition. A number of years ago our Parliamentary Constituency boundary was changed which, I believe, was to our ultimate disadvantage in representation, mostly because of remoteness. The same would be true of this proposed boundary change. Our current representation by our Ward Councillors is, and always has been, excellent , conscientious and appropriate, by people who know us well, and we know them. Relatively isolated rural communities, such as ours, need to be represented by knowledgeable locals. Please do not remove this service and facility from us and, instead, consider other solutions. Yours faithfully, Julia Bunker . 1 Taylor, Laura From: Gina Burdass Sent: 05 March 2018 11:31 To: reviews Subject: "South Somerset DC Ward Boundary Consultation" I live in Corton Denham and strongly OBJECT to the proposed transfer of our parish into Ivelchester Ward from Blackmore Vale. I think that this village has much more in common with other villages nearby that would remain in either the Blackmore Vale Ward, or in the adjacent Milborne Port Ward. Our representation by our current Ward Councillors is first class. It fits well with our connection to our local villages so I think it would be a big mistake to change it. Therefore I OBJECT to the proposal to transfer Corton Denham to the Ivelchester Ward. I sincerely hope you have not used Royal Mail Data Base, or the census in your endeavours. Royal Mail Data Base is completely inaccurate, they are not addresses but instructions to postal staff, the post codes are correct. For instance every home built in Huish Episcopi since the 1970's have been given to Langport. Langport itself was built on Huish Episcopi land and is completely surrounded by Huish Episcopi, Curry Rivel, and Aller, even so called Langport sorting office is in Huish Episcopi. There have been hundreds of new homes built since 1970, very few in Langport. The South Somerset District Council have a correct data base, so it will be easy to get the correct information you need. Obviously, not only Huish Episcopi is affected, so the whole of SSDC data base should be used. There are also proposls (albeit in the early stages) to increase the ward of Ilchester in the area of the A303 near Yeovilton, if this were to come to any sort of fruition then the above argument would become not just important, but imperative. I wish to make comments regarding the above please. Whilst it may be felt that Curry Rivel should join Langport and Huish Espiscopi from a numerical point of view, I am certain that Curry Rivel and Drayton are better suited together. I should like them to remain ‐ TOGETHER. It follows that if voter numbers need adjusting, other smaller districts could join EG Fivehead, Isle Brewers and Isle Abbotts. So far as Langport and Huish are concerned, then, if they are not already part of the group, Aller and Pitney could join. Please will you give my request serious consideration? Thank you, Robert Crowley. 1 South Somerset District Personal Details: Name: Simon Cullum E-mail: Organisation Name: Comment text: I believe the Blackmoor vale boundaries should remain unchanged. The equality of representation is assured, The existing ward more accurately reflects community interests and identities; the Blackmoor Vale has community, geographical, literary identities, which would be overshadowed and possibly lost by coming under the wing of Milborne Port. Even the Church beneficent, which constitutes Horsington, Templecombe and Henstridge points to the maintenance of the ward, and a breakup of this would be viewed by some as tragic. Lastly, we have developed effective and convenient local government, with high levels of community involvement. As an adjunct to milborne Port this would be lost. We are a ham stone village, situated in a rural area (although Yeovil is ever spreading westwards with it's sprawling, unattractive housing estates). We do not consider ourselves a fit with the urban areas, please do not move us. They are currently represented by 3 councillors. The proposal is that they are to still be represented by 3 councillors. What are the gains? I can't see any. Thus there is no valid reason for change. Within the overall plan, the objective should surely be to increase democratic representation. This proposal demonstrably fails this objective.
