Roman Missal 4.Pub

Roman Missal 4.Pub

This is the final part of a four part series explaining some of the changes that will occur in our liturgy beginning on the first Sunday of Advent. If you missed the previous install- ments, you can find them on our web parish site (www.kentnewmancehterparish.org) in the Sunday Bulletin section. If you would like a paper copy, contact the Parish Office. It is fitting that as we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday of the church’s calendar year, we conclude our discussion regarding the Roman Missal. Again, many of the changes will effect the prayers of the presider. You as a community are called to listen attentively to the changes in the language; changes that are to assist you in your prayer. Much of the Concluding Rites will remain the same. Following the Prayer after Commun- ion, announcements may be made. The words of the Final Blessing, however, will sound different. At a recent synod of bishops in Rome, it was stated that: “When Mass concludes, we do not just leave the building. We enter the world with a mission.” The priest or deacon may invite you to “Go forth, the Mass is ended. Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.” Or simply, “Go in Peace.” These options may use different wording, but they invite the community to put into prac- tice the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. This may be an opportunity to reflect on our behavior after we leave Mass. Do we feel we are properly prepared to continue our Christian mission? My friends, all of us are being challenged to review the way we celebrate Mass. The re- vised text should only enhance our worship experience. Let us be open to this new transla- tion. Amen—So be it! .
