A former mining town located in the Black Mountains of Arizona, Oatman was all but abandoned by the 1960s after the gold mines closed. Today, Oatman has undergone a renaissance of sorts and wild burros (donkeys) freely roam the town. Make sure to grab a famous date shake at one of the Oatman dining Grand Canyon National Park establishments. The area is known for farming Medjool dates and when they are boiled, smashed and blended with vanilla ice cream they make a perfect road- trip treat. Depart Oatman for Phoenix.
