Eurovision Obsession Presents: ESC 2020 Country Profiles Albania Competing Broadcaster: Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSh) Debut: 2004 Best Finish: 4th place (2012) Number of Entries: 16 Worst Finish: 17th place (2008, 2009, 2015) A Brief History: Albania has had moderate success in the Contest, qualifying for the Final more often than not, but ultimately not placing well. Albania achieved its highest ever placing, 4th, in Baku with Suus . Song Title: Fall from the Sky Performing Artist: Arilena Ara Composer(s): Darko Dimitrov, Lazar Cvetkoski Lyricist(s): Michael Blue, Robert Stevenson, Sam Schummer About the Performing Artist: Ara first shot to prominence by winning X Factor Albania at age 14. She released her first single the following year and went on to become a major Albanian pop star. Ara has earned many international accolades and served as a coach on The Voice of Albania . However, Armenia has yet to reach the Top Three. Song Title: Chains on You Performing Artist: Athena Manoukian Composer(s): Athena Manoukian, DJ Paco Lyricist(s): Athena Manoukian About the Performing Artist: Manoukian has collaborated across Europe, writing songs for hitmakers, including Greece's winning performer Helena Papirizou. Manoukian is a pop star in her own right, having hit songs in both Greece (where she grew up) and Armenia. It has since been one of the most successful countries, qualifying each year and earning four Top Ten finishes. Song Title: Don't Break Me Performing Artist: Montaigne [Jessica Cerro] Composer(s): Montaigne, Anthony Egizii, David Musumeci Lyricist(s): Montaigne, Anthony Egizii, David Musumeci About the Performing Artist: Montaigne has built a reputation across her native Australia as a stunning performer, unique songwriter, and musical experimenter. She has released three albums to critical and commercial success; she performs across Australia at various music and art festivals. Semi-Final 1 Austria Competing Broadcaster: Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) Debut: 1957 Best Finish: 1st place (1966, 2014) Number of Entries: 52 Worst Finish: Last (1957, 1991) A Brief History: Austria has had an up-and-down track record at the Contest, finding success as often as failure. After storming to victory in 2014, it became the first host country to receive a nul points in 2015. Song Title: Alive Performing Artist: Vincent Bueno Composer(s): Vincent Bueno, David "Davey" Yang, Felix van Göns, Artur Aigner Lyricist(s): Vincent Bueno About the Performing Artist: Bueno has mostly made a name for himself in recent years as a music producer where he supporrts himself and other artists as Suitcase Media. However, he's been performing since childhood; after graduating from the Vienna Conservatory he won Musical! The Show . Song Title: Cleopatra Performing Artist: Efendi [Samira Azer gizi Efendiyeva] Composer(s): Luuk van Beers, Alan Roy Scott, Sarah Lake Lyricist(s): Luuk van Beers, Alan Roy Scott, Sarah Lake About the Performing Artist: Efendi has competed on various Azerbaijani televised talent shows, coming in third on two of them. She also finished third in the international competition Silk Way Star in 2017. Prior to Eurovision, she represented Azerbaijan at the Voice of Nur-Sultan . Semi-Final 1 Belarus Competing Broadcaster: National State Television & Radio Company (BTRC) Debut: 2004 Best Finish: 6th place (2007) Number of Entries: 16 Worst Finish: 2nd last (2010) A Brief History: Belarus has had limited success, qualifying for the Final five times, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014, and 2019. The country has only finished in the Top Ten once, with Work Your Magic in 2007. Song Title: Da Vidna Performing Artist: VAL [Valeria Gribusova & Vlad Pashkevich] Composer(s): Vladislav Pashkevich, Valeria Gribusova Lyricist(s): Mikita Naidzenau About the Performing Artist: Formed in 2016, VAL has set itself apart through constant experiementation - with music, style, and fashion. Despite releasing their first EP in 2017, it wasn't until 2019 when the duo began infusing folk music into their songs that they achieved commercial success. VRT has been the less succesful of the duo; however saw some success this past decade, responsible for two of Belgium's four Top Ten finishes (2010 & 2016). Song Title: Release Me Performing Artist: Hooverphonic [Alex Callier, Raymond Geerts, Luka Cruysberghs] Composer(s): Alex Callier, Luca Chiaravalli Lyricist(s): Alex Callier About the Performing Artist: Originally formed twenty years ago, Hooverphonic has seen an array of line-ups, but has always consisted of songwriter and vocalist Callier and guitarist Geerts. Crusyberghs joined in 2019 after winning The Voice of Flanders , where she was on Callier's team. Semi-Final 1 Bulgaria Competing Broadcaster: Bulgarian National Television (BNT) Debut: 2005 Best Finish: 2nd Place (2017) Number of Entries: 12 Worst Finish: 14th Place (2018) A Brief History: Bulgaria was scheduled to return to the Contest this year after taking 2019 off. After initial struggles, it came into its own, qualifying for the Final from 2016-2018, including two conssecutive Top Ten finishes. Song Title: Tear Getting Sober Performing Artist: VICTORIA [Victoria Georgieva] Composer(s): Victoria Georgieva, Borislav Milanov, Lukas Oskar Janisch, Cornelia Wiebols Lyricist(s): Victoria Georgieva, Borislav Milanov, Lukas Oscar Janisch About the Performing Artist: Georgieva finally made it onto X-Factor Bulgaria seaons five in 2015 after three failed attempts. She went on to finish sixth on the show. Georgieva signed with Monte Music last year where she is currently working on her debut album. Though, it does have six Top Ten finishes and Yugoslavia's lone winner came from Zadar. Song Title: Divlji Vjetre [Wild Wind] Performing Artist: Damir Kedžo Composer(s): Ante Pecotić Lyricist(s): Ante Pecotić About the Performing Artist: Kedžo is an accomplished pop star, vocalist, and actor having acheived commercial success, won multiple awards and festivals, and won a young actors' award. His career started on the talent show Story Supernova Music Talents at the age of 16 where he finished 7th. Semi-Final 1 Cyprus Competing Broadcaster: Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Debut: 1981 Best Finish: 2nd (2018) Number of Entries: 36 Worst Finish: Last (1986) A Brief History: Cyprus has had moderate success, finishing in the Top Ten ten times including reaching a new high, second place, in 2018. Cyprus holds the record for most entries without a victory, hitting 36 in 2019. Song Title: Running Performing Artist: Sandro [Alessandro Rütten] Composer(s): Alfie Arcuri, Sebastian Rickards, Octavian Rasinariu, Sandro, Teo DK Lyricist(s): Alfie Arcuri, Sebastian Rickards, Octavian Rasinariu, Sandro About the Performing Artist: Of Greek and American origin, Rütten was born and raised in Germany. After competing on the 2018 Voice of Germany , he went on to compete (and finish 5th) at the 2019 New Wave Festival, representing the USA. Sandro is also a multi-instrumentalist.
