It is more important than ever to be focused, yet attentive to these shifts. Mobile and ecommerce are here to stay, having a social media plan and online presence are increasingly imperative if one is to prosper in this new age. Do not underestimate the importance of social media. Many of these service are free to join. Facebook, Yelp, and Travelocity to name a few, can get your name out there with little cost or effort. If you have not already done so, ensure your company information is up to date on Google! Add photos, and make sure that customer can find you and your story from their mobile device. Find your niche, know your customer, and be aware of trends and tendencies. Visit as many rooms as you can at WCSA to see what is out there. Be sure to attend the Retailer’s Showcase on Friday, August 25, 5:30 - 7:30. The retailer’s showcase is a relaxed environment where you can see in a short time what each brand sees as on-trend for the upcoming season. Talk with other retailers to see what they are doing, never stop learning. I would like to thank all of our supporters, without whom this show could not take place. Sponsors have graciously supported the retailer’s hospitality suite. During my first term as president, I have had constant support from past president Barb Neilans, as well as from the rest of the WCSA board members. In challenging times, it is easy to get caught up in the negatives. Finding the bright spots can be hard at times, but remember the friends and colleagues we have in this industry. We are lucky to have such a closed knit group, remember to stay positive. I wish everyone a great show and a prosperous year.
