Last week, I had the honor of giving the Parent Perspective during the African American Male Scholars Induction Ceremony. The induction ceremony was so inspiring seeing all the academic achievements of our high achieving African American young men. Great job to the advisors: Mr. Brooks and Mr. Hicks. Next, I attended our top notch Jazz Band performance during an evening concert in the beautiful Woodbury Auditorium. The Jazz band just blew me away by their execution of 8 songs. This week, I gave the closing remarks for the African American Female Scholars Program. The young ladies accomplished and experienced many excellent achievements throughout this school year. Great job to the advisors: Mrs. Garrison, Ms. Hughes, Ms. Moore and Mrs. Thomas-Taylor. I concluded my week by attending both the 5th and 6th grade band concerts as they performed at SHHS. I had the chance to hear them during their dress rehearsal last week, but they blew me away by their performances in front of a packed gymnasium. We have some of the best band instructors in the land and our students are very fortunate to have this opportunity to excel in the arts. These are excellent examples of the "Shaker Experience." Great job to our band directors: Mr. Deep, Mrs. Koterba, Mr. Kulikowski and Mrs. Tyrrell. We have an excellent team at Woodbury Elementary School! Enrollment is still open for Shaker's summer camp, SELF. Shaker Heights City School District is pleased to provide a wide array of summer programs and enrichment opportunities for all Shaker students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. The Ohio Department of Health has revised the immunizations requirements for the 2016- 2017 school year. All students entering the seventh grade are required to have one dose of Meningococcal vaccine and one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) prior to the beginning of the school year. You may obtain the Meningococcal vaccine from your private physician, other community providers or the Shaker Heights Health Department (216-491-1480). Please consider the new guidelines when scheduling your child's next medical appointment. Students who do not meet the immunization requirements are considered inadequately immunized. However, any immunizations required by this law may be waived if you provide your written objection to the immunizations on religious or philosophical grounds, or a physician certifies in writing that such immunizations are medically contraindicated. Please feel free to drop off your student's updated immunization record to your student's school throughout the summer. Thank you for your attention to this important matter!
