
BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM G. 6 (For Immediate Release) May 12, 1954 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 345 leading centers for the month of April aggregated $155 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $468 billion or 9*3 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 21.6 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the increase was 3.1 per cent; and at all other centers it was 2.2 per cent.
