Many residents are professional and business persons employed in Columbus. Our school Bexley High School is a four-year public high school accredited by the state of Ohio and the nationally recognized AdvancED. It is in the process of expanding the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB-MYP) to the ninth and tenth grades. Total enrollment: 703 Faculty: 52 certifi ed educators Class of 2016: 160 students Percentage holding at least a Masters: 95.9% (2 PhDs) Average years of experience: 14.0 years The student/counselor ratio is 234:1 and student/faculty ratio 14:1, which affords students the academic support and opportunities characterizing a highly personal educational experience. Marking System, GPA and Class Rank Bexley High School groups core courses by achievement level, all of which provide for a college preparatory program. Core courses have NCAA Clearinghouse approval, with the lowest passing grade a “D-” and the col- lege recommending grade a “C.” Grade Point Averages are calculated on a 4.0 basis, with only BHS courses computed in a student’s GPA. Transfer students will not have a GPA until one semester of work at BHS has been completed. Due to the highly competitive nature of Bexley High School, students are not ranked for college ad- mission. In the class of 2015, 41 students were designated Summa Cum Laude, 68 received the Honors Diploma and 29 graduated as part of the BHS Cum Laude Society. Twenty certifi ed Advanced Placement courses are offered in Language and Composition, Literature and Composition, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, American History, European History, Psychology, U.S. Government and Politics, Comput- er Science, Spanish, French, Latin, Art History, Studio Art and Music Theory. Students enrolled in AP courses are required to take the AP exam, which is paid for by the school district; there is no limit on the number of AP courses a student may take. In 2015, 261 students took a total of 574 AP Exams with 86.5 percent earning a score of 3 or above. College Admissions Testing Twelve members of the class of 2016 were invited to participate in the National Merit Program’s College Plans Reporting Service. 78 members of the class of 2015 took the SAT, with the following score ranges for the middle 50% of test takers: Critical Reading: 530-680 Math: 520-650 Writing: 490-640 126 members of the class of 2015 took the ACT with the following score range for the middle 50%: 24 - 31 Stephanie Krosnosky, College Counselor Harley Williams, Principal of Secondary Schools David Leland, School Counselor Kristin Robbins, Assistant Principal Carrie Washburn, School Counselor Graduation Requirements Bexley offers a comprehensive, student-centered curriculum, requiring 21 units of credit for graduation. These must include: Fine Arts 0.5 unit Health and P.E. 1.0 units Science 3.0 units English 4.0 units Mathematics 4.0 units Social Studies 3.0 units Business/Technology; Foreign Language; or Fine Arts 0.5 unit Financial Literacy Capstone 0.5 unit Special Programs A Learning Center provides services for students with identifi ed learning disabilities. Students may participate in alternative learning experiences at Eastland/Fairfi eld Career Center, through the WINGS program, College Credit Plus programs at Columbus State Community College and the Metro School, a county-wide school with a math and science focus. Also available is MOSAIC, an inter-disciplinary, integrated curriculum with a global/multicul- tural focus. It is located in a residential area serving the northwest quadrant of Columbus and Franklin County. A large majority of parents are college-educated, business and professional people. Bishop Watterson High School meets all State of Ohio education requirements and is fully accredited by the Department of Education, State of Ohio and the Catholic Diocese of Columbus.
