Qualifying to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships is accomplished through performance in the Preliminary Round competition at each site for events contested at those competitions. Twelve competitors from each individual event and a minimum of eight teams from each relay event advance from each Preliminary Round site to the Final Championship Meet. Qualification, through competition in an event at a Preliminary Round competition, is required to participate in that event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Any individual or relay team must remain eligible for advancement throughout all rounds of the Championships. Qualification for the Heptathlon and Decathlon events of the Championship is accom- plished through a student-athlete’s position on the national descending order list.
