Fall 2015 to Fall 2016 Retention ......................................................................................... 15 Executive Summary Of the 2,462 local high school graduates in 2015, 29.6% (729) attended McLennan Community College (McLennan) in the fall 2015 semester. Axtell High School and West High School had the highest percentage of graduates (43.1%) and Midway High School had the highest number of graduates (140) attending MCC during the fall 2015 semester. In terms of demographics, 61% (443) of all local high school graduates attending McLennan in the fall 2015 semester were female, which was representative of 2015 high school graduates. White students made up 46% (334) of students in the fall 2015 semester, while 48% (351) were minority. The largest minority groups were Hispanic at 37% (271) followed by African-American at 11% (80). In terms of course load, 77% (561) of students attending McLennan in the fall 2015 semester enrolled in 12 or more semester hours (full-time). Lorena High School had 94% of 2015 graduates attending full time, followed by Bruceville Eddy High School at 91%. The school with the highest percentage of part-time students was Crawford High School with 46%, followed by Moody High School with 43%. Academic (transfer) programs were most popular with the 2015 local high school graduates, with 87% (637) of students attending MCC in the fall 2015 semester enrolled. The local high schools with the highest percentage of students attending MCC in the fall 2015 semester in academic programs were Bruceville Eddy High School, at 100% (11) and China Spring High School at 98% (47). The highest percentage of students in workforce programs attending McLennan in the fall of 2015 was from Mart High School at 25% (2) There were a total of 3,704 courses taken by local high graduates attending McLennan in the fall of 2015, 73% of which (2,693 courses) received an A, B, C, or credit, 20% (733 courses) received a D, F, or no credit, and 8% (278 courses) withdrew from classes. Of the total courses taken by high school graduates in 2015 (not just local high schools) attending McLennan in the fall of 2015, 73% (4,267 courses) received an A, B, C, or credit, 18% (1,039 courses) received a D, F, or no credit, and 9% (519 courses) withdrew from classes. The campus-wide pass rate for fall 2015 was 72% (20,481 courses) and the campus-wide attrition rate was 12% (3,434 courses). The pass rate for 2015 local high school graduates attending McLennan in the fall of 2015 was 73% and for 2014 it was 70%. West High School had the highest pass rate with 91% with Moody High School (85%) following. Of the local high graduates attending McLennan in the fall of 2015, 54% (394) enrolled in at one or more developmental courses. Developmental math courses were enrolled in by 73% (287) of local high graduates attending McLennan in the fall of 2015, followed by developmental reading/writing courses at 63% (248). Local high graduates took attempted an average of 12.6 hours, and completed an average of 9.9 hours. Of those that completed, the average term GPA was 3.0. Lorena had the highest average attempted hours (14.2) followed by West (13.5). West had the highest average completed hours (12.5) followed by Lorena (12.3). Of the local high graduates attending McLennan in the fall of 2015, 86% (716) returned in for the spring 2016 semester. Axtell had the highest fall to spring retention rate (100%), followed by University (91%). Of the local high graduates attending McLennan in the fall of 2015, 67% (558) returned in for the fall 2016 semester. Axtell had the highest fall to fall retention rate (86%), followed by Bosqueville (82%). Overall, the local high graduates attending McLennan in the fall of 2015 were similar in comparison to graduates in previous years. When analyzing the data, there were very few changes from previous years. Please see the individual tables below for more information and do not hesitate to contact the Office of Institutional Research if you have any questions. Data Background This report contains descriptive information for local public high school 2015 graduates enrolled at McLennan Community College, both in credit and developmental courses, during the fall 2015 semester. In most cases, the number of high school graduates was obtained from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Web site at http://www.txhighereddata.org/Interactive/HSCollLink.cfm, and the Texas Education Agency Web site at http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/adhocrpt/. Please note that the data reflect all graduates for the 2015 year, including summer 2015 graduates. The results from this report will be used by MCC to help identify the needs of our local students and are provided to local public high schools as well. The following topics are included in this report: Enrollment Grade performance Gender Pass rates Ethnicity Developmental courses Course load Developmental courses by subject Program Persistence from fall to fall semester Comparisons across schools should be made with caution because of the substantial differences in the number of graduates attending MCC. It is also useful to examine changes across years for a given school. For many of the analyses, the data from the previous graduating year(s) are included.
