Focus on Local Activist Who Fought for Women’s Right to Vote The next meeting of the Wilkinsburg Historical Society will be Monday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. in South Avenue United Methodist Church. The evening will focus on the women’s Suffragist Movement in Pittsburgh a hundred years ago. Women in the United States were not allowed to vote until 1920. Each state had women who organized to fight for the right to vote. In the Pittsburgh area one of the leading activists was Winifred B. Meek Morris who kept a scrapbook of all the activities of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Equal Franchise Federation. Their group efforts will be discussed, along with vintage photographs and news articles. The meeting is free and open to members, guests and all interested people. Refreshments will be served.
