Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies, a companion title to the highly-respected Journal of Hydrology, publishes original research papers enhancing the science of hydrology and aiming at region-specific problems, past and future conditions, analysis, review and solutions. The journal particularly welcomes research papers that deliver new insights into region-specific hydrological processes and responses to changing conditions, as well as contributions that incorporate interdisciplinarity and translational science. The journal topics covered include: surface and subsurface catchment hydrology; impacts of climatic and land use change on natural hydrologic processes and water resources; hydrologic process observations, modeling and prediction; innovative solution strategies for water management issues in transboundary basins and groundwater; economic hydrology; hydrology and livelihoods; cultural and social water allocation; social impacts of water infrastructure. INTRODUCTION Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies is the new online only, author-pays, open access journal published by Elsevier. Types of paper Papers are published as a Full Paper or as Comments on these papers. (a) A FULL PAPER is a contribution describing original research, including theoretical exposition, extensive data and in-depth critical evaluation, and is peer reviewed. Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies (EJRH) focuses on the study of region specific hydrological problems, past and future conditions, analysis, review and solutions. For the full Aims & Scope click here. (b) REVIEW PAPERS are encouraged. Only critical review papers will be considered. The format and length of review papers are more flexible than for a full paper. Review papers are peer reviewed. (c) COMMENTS on papers already published are welcome, subject to the criteria of interest, originality and the approval of the appropriate Editor. Comments can include extensions to, or criticisms of, those papers. They must provide arguments that are reasoned, and not presented in a confrontational fashion. They will be sent to the author of the original paper for reply, the outcome of which may be publication in a future issue. Comments and Authors' Replies will be received until 4 months after publication. Landmark Hydrology paper A Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies 'Landmark Hydrology Paper' aims to be the most authoritative state-of-the-art overview of a component of the hydrological cycle for a whole country or for major large-scale basin. Examples could be classical themes as 'The groundwater resources of …', 'The characterization of the surface water of …', 'The precipitation regime of …' etc., but also 'The water management of …', 'The socio-hydrology of …', etc. The editors of Journal of Hydrology: Regional Hydrology welcome proposals from prospective authors for 'Landmark Hydrology Papers'. Proposals should list potential authors, affiliations, title of paper, aims, short outline and why this paper will be an authoritative state-of-the-art overview, i.e. which were previous overviews and what will be new in this paper? Papers will receive a thorough review by regional experts and by the editor-in-chief. 'Landmark Hydrology Papers' are expected to receive significant number of citations; they will be well promoted by Elsevier's web, email, social media channels. Over time they will also be combined in virtual journal issues. Submission checklist You can use this list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review.
