Mining Properties Chibougamau & Mistassini Areas Quebec INTRODUCTION Dadson Lake Chibougamau Mines Limited owns 13 mining properties; 12 in the Chibougamau area and one in the Mistassini area. Exploration work has been conducted on some groups while others have had only a cursory examination. The total area held '.y the company is 9815 acres approximately. Acreage reported for individual properties is approximate. The writer has not examined any of these properties but has supervised and conducted exploration work on properties adjoining most of the groups, and is familiar with the geolog- ical setting of all the claim groups. Total cost of recommended exploration program is $20,700.00. H. R. HOGAN J. At McCUAIG GEGLG GIST MINING ENGINEER e( GROUP NO. l. The easiest means of access is by flying from Cedar bay on Dore lake and landing on the bay where the Chibougamau river enters hichwacho lake. From the bay the property may be reached by a bush trail. GENERAL GEOLOGY According to the Geological Survey of Canada,. maps nos. 602A and 623A the property is underlain by easterly trending andes:ites, tuffs, and sedimentary rocks. These formations are locally ,intruded :by altered gabbro and diorite. SULPHIDE MINERALIZATION Sulphide mineralization is `known to occur on claim 5, C-96363. The sulphides are in, or adjacent H. R. HOGAN J. A. McCUAIG GEOLOGIST 3 MINING ENGINEER to. qua•i,z stringers as veinlets in weakly sheared diorite or occur disseminated in the diorite. This occurrence has been traced for a length. of 80 feet. It strikes N. 20° W and dips vertically. A grab sample from this occurrence assayed 2.30% copper, 0.01 ounce of gold per ton, and 0.10 ounces cf silver per ton. WORK COMPLETED An electrical resistivity survey was con- ducted on the property during February 1957. Four zones of possible faulting and five areas of possible sulphide mineralization were indicated from the re- sults of the electrical resistivity survey. The zones of possible sulphide mineralization are designated "A" to "E" inclusive. The "A" zone is the eastern extension of a mineralized zone on the ad jacent property owned by Pennbec lines Limited. It is believed to consist of a discontinuous band of siliceous tuff mineralized to varying degrees with pyrite, pyrrhotite, and chalco- pyrite. Two diamuad drill holez intersected sulphides in the western part of the zone bu commercial values were lacking. H. R. HOGAN J. A. •IvieCt7AIG GEOLOGIST MINING ENGINEER Zones "F3", "C" and "D" lie, for the most part within a diorite-gabbro intrusive. They strike east, and are parallel to sib-parallel. The resis- tivity data indicate that certain points along these zones are mineralized with sulphides. Zone "E" is believed due to a high ;concen- tration of sulphides over a small area. RECOMMENDATIONS Geochemical and magnetometer surveys should be conducted over zones A to 'E, inclüsive. This . will aid in determining _ the nature of the zones Where diamond drilling is warranted. ESTIMATED COST Geochemical and magnetometer check `surveys- (including travelling expenses) ' -- $ 2,000.00 . L' GROUP NO. Roy township 800 acres KJ Cert No. ~ ! The eastern half of the property covers a portion of Lake Lunaberner, which is suit- able for use a s a landing base for float-equipped aircraft. GENERAL GEOLOGY The northern half of the claim group is underlain by an easterly trending intrusive layer of serpentine or pyroxenite. The southern half is underlain by volcanic rocks, predominantly andesite, and minor amounts of serpentinite. WORK COMPLETED No exploration has been conducted on the claim group. RECOMMENDATIONS Geological Survey of Canada map no. 304A indicates that outcrops are relatively abundant on the property. The writer recommends that the claims be prospected carefully for sulphide mineralization and for any indications of the presence of asbestos. H. R. HOGAN - J. A. GENEti.AL GEOLOGY° According to Map no. 304A of the Geological Survey of Canada the north third of the property is underlain by detrital sedimentary rocks of the Chi- bougamau series. The southern two thirds of the pro- perty are underlain by rocks of Fre-Chibougamau series age. From south torth the formations are serpentine; altered diorite and altered andesite; the trend of the foi-mations is easterly and the dip vertical. The two series are separated by a northeast trending fnult. H. R. HOGAN J. A. McCUAIG GEOLOGIST - 10 - MINING ENGINEER WORK COMPLETED No exploration work has been conducted on the property. RECOMENDATIONS The serpentine band should be prospected for asbestos.
