Shabana Azmi Attends BRAC University Convocation Tomorrow Sun Online Desk

4th December, 2016 Shabana Azmi attends BRAC University convocation tomorrow Sun Online Desk Noted Bollywood actress and social worker Shabana Azmi is all set attend as a speaker at the 11th convocation of BRAC University which is scheduled to be held tomorrow. The convocation of the university will be held at International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB) on December 5. Shabana Azmi is one of the members of the governing body of BRAC University. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be present as chief guest in the convocation. Shabana Azmi only acted in a Bangladeshi movie Meghla Akash under the direction of Nargis Akhter. Later many times attempts were taken to bring her in Bangladesh. But she did not come because with any social welfare related activities she never attends any entertainment based programme. She won the hearts of many viewers by virtue of her outstanding acting quality and skill. Later she engaged herself with different social welfare related activities. Shabana Azmi’s father Kaifi Azmi was a poet and mother Shawkat Azmi was a theatre actress. Both of them were engaged with communist party’s politics. In 1974, she first acted in movie Ankur. She played the role of a married maid servant named Laxmi in the movie. She got the National Film Award for her first acted movie. Later she also got the award again for movies Earth, Khandar, Paar and Godmother. As Best Actress, she got the Filmfare Award for four times. Therefore, she got many other awards at home and abroad. Azmi has appeared in over 120 Hindi and Bengali films in both mainstream and independent cinema, and since 1988 she has acted in several foreign projects. Numerous of her films have been cited as a form of progressivism which portrays Indian society, its customs and traditions. In addition to acting, Azmi is a social and women's rights activist. She is the wife of poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar. She is a Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) which seeks to spread contraception and abortion in India in order to limit that country's population. In appreciation of Azmi's life and works, the Congress party's government gave her a nominated (unelected) membership of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament.
