Opening Theme Composed by Matt Sandford and Marc Gracie Performed by Matt Sandford Music Co-ordinator Vivian Simonelli As well as taking the lead role and doing the music, Joe Dolce released one single from the movie, “Vaffanculo Polka” (MUS SP2004), recorded at Quicklik Studios, Elwood in 1988 for Musicland Records. The single was the A side, and the B side was an instrumental version of the same song. It is now extremely rare, but Dolce obviously had an affection for the track, because it turned up on a few later releases, for example, as the third track on his double CD-compilation derived from the Countdown Spectacular Tour, with the spelling ‘Vafanculo Polka’. (Below: the 45 single, with Peter Adams on the left, Dolce on the right, and the CD with Dolce on the cover). The song runs over the tail credits. In the film and studio versions there’s a few off-mike mumbles of the “oh yeah, yeah” kind as the music kicks in, and then the lyrics begin … Listen! When you wash your car, it starts to rain And you kiss your wife, but she wants to fight again And your best friend’s a mutt And you hate his guts … And you want to say la Vaffanculo da na… ohhh … La Vaffanculo You Vaffanculo They Vaffanculo … do the Vaffanculo Polka … Hey huh When you feed your dog and he bites your hand And your sing real good, but you haven’t got a band And all the cretins get rich, and your lucka won’t a switch And you want to say la Vaffanculo you bitch … ohh … La Vaffanculo Say you Vaffanculo They Vaffanculo …do the Vaffanculo Polka … Mah Vaffanculo You Vaffanculo They Vaffanculo … do the Vaffanculo Polka … Oooh (musical interlude with harmonica) Ooohh mah Vaffanculo … You Vaffanculo They Vaffanculo … do the Vaffanculo Polka … Oooh And when you’re eating the spaghetti that’s not al dente And at times you work but your wife forgetuh And you’re feeling mean and you got to scream And you want to throw the baccalat into the stream Ooohh mah Vaffanculo … Say you Vaffanculo They Vaffanculo … do the Vaffanculo Polka Mah Vaffanculo You Vaffanculo They Vaffanculo … do the Vaffanculo Polka … (in the film, fade out here; in the studio version there are a few more repeats) Oh yeah Mah Vaffanculo You Vaffanculo They Vaffanculo … do the Vaffanculo Polka … Just saying now … Mah Vaffanculo You Vaffanculo Say they Vaffanculo … do the Vaffanculo Polka!
