The Competition Council Authorized the Takeover of Three Adivin'95

The Competition Council authorized the takeover of three Adivin’95 stores by Mega Image SRL The Competition Council authorized the transaction through which Mega Image SRL took over three stores belonging to Adivin'95 SRL. Mega Image, part of Ahold Delhaize Group, operates in Romania for the most part in the retail consumer goods sector. Mega Image stores offers both branded and own branded products. The three stores taken over by Mega Image from Adivin '95 are located in Constanta and have been operating under the name of "Your family's supermarket". The Competition Authority analysed this operation and found that it did not raise significant barriers to effective competition on the Romanian market or on a substantial part of it, in particular by creating or strengthening a dominant position. Previously, the Competition Council authorized under conditions more transactions on the food retail market after analysing the effects these transactions may have on the market. For example, in the case of transaction where Mega Image was to take over 20 Angst stores, the competition authority found that in some areas in Bucharest the strong position on the Mega Image market would have been strengthened with the effect of reducing consumer choice. Following the intervention of the Competition Council, Mega Image renounced to the acquisition of the Angst Perla store and committed to cession the Angst Amzei and Angst Academiei stores and not to engage in the divested business for a period of 10 years. The decision will be published on the competition authority's website. September 2018 Press Office tel: 0372.129.710, 021.405.44 29 e-mail: [email protected] .
