Expanded NSSS Schedule Confirmed NASR/SSA Media Release Following the overwhelming success of the inaugural National Super Sedan Series last season, plans are well advanced for the 2006/2007 competition and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) has officially announced the full schedule of events. The 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series will feature an expanded schedule that will include eight rounds of competition, all of which will be staged at first class venues around the country, with three new tracks joining the schedule for the first time. In an effort to reduce travel expenditure for series competitors, the schedule of events has been constructed to maximise the amount of racing in each of the regions in the shortest viable time period, as NASR General Manager Tim McAvaney explained: “We have planned to conduct the series into two swings including five rounds from December 28 until January 13 and three rounds from March 3 until March 11. This scheduling will help competitors reduce their travel expense, which in addition to an increased tow money fund will make the series more viable for all.” The series will get underway in Queensland immediately after Christmas with the opening round scheduled for Rockhampton Speedway on Thursday, December 28. With some of the best facilities in the country, including a fully covered pit area, the Rockhampton complex is a fitting venue for the series opener. Two days later on December 30, round two will be decided at Brisbane International Speedway, with round three slated for Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway the following night (December 31) to complete the first of two double-header weekends on the schedule. Round four will be the traditional K-Rock Cup at Avalon Raceway on January 6, while round five has been allocated to Moama’s Heartland Raceway on January 13. The series will then break to accommodate the traditional blue ribbon events in Tasmania and recommence the week after the Australian Super Sedan Championship at the Kwinana Motorplex in Western Australia. Three rounds of competition will then be staged in South Australia and Victoria in the two weeks immediately following the national title as the series drivers make their return journey from Western Australia. March 3 will see round six decided at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway, a welcome new addition to the series schedule. A week later on March 10 and 11, round seven and the Grand Final will be decided on consecutive nights at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway and Murray Bridge Speedway, both of whom are also joining the series for the first time. Thanks to the cooperation of the VSCF and Rushworth Speedway, the Victorian Super Sedan Championship will immediately follow the completion of the NSSS, allowing competitors to compete at Rushworth on March 17. The Victorian Title had tentatively been scheduled for March 10. Special thanks also to the hard work of the WASCF in assisting and coming so close to having Western Australia included on the schedule. In the end, logistical, financial and timing issues have unfortunately meant that WA was not possible for 2006/2007, however plans are already in place to include WA in 2008 and every effort will be made to ensure their inclusion in the future. With the prize money, tow money, point fund, sponsorship and other logistical elements close to finalisation, twenty-two drivers have already expressed interest in becoming contracted drivers. Series organisers have been working tirelessly to complete the necessary planning and negotiations and some very exciting announcements will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead. Further expressions of interest are sought for driver contracts prior to August 31st.
