Khan. 4 ±±±±±±±±±± Patrons±±Marshall, R.G., Black, Frederick, Lingamfelter, McQuigg and Parrish; Senators: Colgan, O©Brien and Puller 5 ±±±±±±±±±± 6 WHEREAS, United States Army Captain Humayun S. M. Khan, a resident of the Prince William 7 County community of Bristow, was killed in action in Iraq on June 8, 2004; and 8 WHEREAS, a native of the United Arab Emirates, Humayun Khan moved to Silver Spring, 9 Maryland, at the age of two, graduated from Kennedy High School in 1996, and earned his degree from 10 the University of Virginia in 2000; and 11 WHEREAS, Captain Khan, who planned to become a military lawyer, joined the Army four years 12 ago in part to pay for law school; and 13 WHEREAS, Captain Khan was assigned to Headquarters Company, 201st Forward Support Battalion, 14 1st Infantry Division, based in Vilseck, Germany; and 15 WHEREAS, after being deployed to Iraq, Captain Khan was killed by a suicide car bomber while on 16 guard duty at the company©s compound near Baquabah, Iraq; and 17 WHEREAS, Captain Khan is remembered by his troops, colleagues, and superior officers for his 18 courage, honesty, sense of humor, and grace under pressure; and 19 WHEREAS, Captain Khan©s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of young 20 Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm©s 21 way; now, therefore, be it HJ780 22 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby 23 note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic American, Captain Humayun S. M. Khan; 24 and, be it 25 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution 26 for presentation to the family of Captain Humayun S. M. Khan as an expression of the high regard in 27 which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia. 19:59 3/23/10.
