The Gawsworth Guardian ‘Learning Together To Achieve Our Best’ Aspiration.Equality.Innovation.Pride.Respect. Edition 23 – Friday 6th March 2020 Dear Parents/Carers It was wonderful to see the children and staff looking so resplendent in their World Book day costumes yesterday. The children were all very proud of their outfits! I had to judge the most impressive efforts which was incredibly hard – the winner in the Infant department was Birdie Wright and the winner in the Juniors was Oscar Ransom! Well done to both children and their helping hands at home. This afternoon, it was a pleasure to go down to St James’ Church with three of our Year 6 girls, Marni, Holly and Isabel who took part in a service written by women in Zimbabwe and about Zimbabwe. It was very interesting and the girls were a great help. Have a lovely weekend Yours sincerely Mr MJ Shaw Head Teacher After school Mindfulness Colouring Club We wish to give you advance notice that there will be no after school Mindfulness Colouring Club next Tuesday 10th March. If your child normally takes part in this club please collect them at the usual time of 3.20pm. Alternatively, you may come to the school office and we will be able to make the appointment for you. Phase Assemblies Unfortunately, we are postponing all of our class phase assemblies this term (the first of which was EYFS’ next Thursday 12th March). This is upon advice received from Cheshire East’s Public Health Team regarding reducing the spread of Coronavirus through public gatherings. We aim to reintroduce these assemblies as soon as possible and will advise you when this will happen. We will keep you informed of the coronavirus information that we receive from the Fallibroome Trust, Public Health England, DfE and Cheshire East through our website link: http://www.gawsworth.cheshire.sch.uk/page/coronavirus/63430 The Gawsworth Guardian ‘Learning Together To Achieve Our Best’ Aspiration.Equality.Innovation.Pride.Respect. Request from Rotakids Our Rotakids are planning a fundraising Bingo event involving our local community. They are after a big bingo machine. If anyone has one of these they could loan for the event please let the school office know. Many thanks. TOF – Rare Conditions Day Well done to the children for raising £141.55 towards TOFS on our Rare Conditions Day on Monday. Year 2 Residential Year 2 are looking forward to their visit to Tattenhall on Monday and staying the night! We know that they will have a great time! Foodbank Collection for Cheshire Streetwise The Fallibroome Trust Primary School Council are starting a foodbank collection for Cheshire Streetwise, building upon the work that they have done by raising over £4500 for the homeless in Macclesfield. From Monday, the children can bring food items (non-perishables only) such as tins, packets, long-life items and non-food items such as toiletries for the foodbank. Our Trust councillors have decided that we will collect the items in our houses, so there will be a collection box for each house. Sports News This week, our fabulous swimming team took part in the annual Macclesfield and District Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala. Our children came 7/16 altogether, matching last year’s position. It was very close between the top teams and the squad just missed out on 3rd place! Thanks go to Mr Jones, who came to compere the night, Mrs Smith, Mrs Platt and Mrs Farmer who helped to ensure the smooth running of the gala and Mrs Lewis who helped Mr Shaw to organise the gala and ensure that all of the schools were taking part! Our Year 3/4 Cross Country team were back in action after a pause over the darkest winter period. They showed some amazing individual and team efforts, with the boys coming 4th overall. A special mention to Annie for being the only girl participating in her race from Gawsworth! The football teams were back in action, this week against our friends at Bollinbrook. The matches resulted in a draw and a narrow loss in the final minutes of the game. However, the children really enjoyed themselves and showed great sportsmanship. Our netball team played in the area final at Wilmslow High School. They played brilliantly in all of their games, maintaining their very high standard. They came 2nd out of 24 schools which was incredible. Well done netballers. Next week, our Year 5/6 cross-country team are back in action, the lacrosse team are taking part in the national qualifiers area competition, the tag-rugby team are travelling to Crewe for the Cheshire final, the swimming team are travelling to Liverpool for the regional schools swimming gala and it’s the Rotary Swimathon – phew!
