Heinrich August Winkler Still a Community of Values? Historical Reflections on the Normative Basis of the West Lecture 21.09.2007, 12 p.m., Room 103 English Free admission Prof. Heinrich August Winkler, the prominent historian from Berlin’s Humboldt University, and author of the recent book, Germany: The Long Road West (Oxford University Press, 2006) will be coming to the USA and Canada for a lecture tour in September-October 2007, as a guest of the Goethe-Institut and its partners. Theme: Still a Community of Values? Historical Reflections on the Normative Basis of the West. Biography: Since 1991, H. A. Winkler has been Professor of Contemporary History at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Born in Königsberg, he studied history, philosophy, public law, and political science in Münster, Heidelberg, and Tübingen, where he earned his doctoral degree in 1963. In 1970, he completed his qualifications for the Habilitation in modern history and political science at the Free University of Berlin. From 1972 to 1991, Prof. Winkler served as Professor for Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Freiburg. He has been a German Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University; a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Washington, D.C.; a fellow of Berlin’s Institute for Advanced Study (Wissenschaftskolleg), a guest of the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, Paris, and the Institute for Advanced Historical Studies in Munich (Historisches Kolleg München).
