The information T contained in it is what many of the older members of the Conference have been called upon to give; it is now brought together in one volume, open to all. None but those who have engaged in similar work, can understand the labor involved. Hours have been spent in following up the record of a single name, and then failing to gain any satisfactory knowledge of it. In some instances names were dropped from the Conference roll and no record made of it, especiallj' in the first few years of its organization. In the preparation of this Manual, the written and printed official records have been searched, newspapers examined, correspondence carried on with persons in various parts of the country-, and interviews had with those who were in a position to know the facts desired. Yet, after all had been done, in some instances the information gained was quite meager and unsatisfactory. And yet, we be­ lieve that the Manual is, in the main, accurate, and contains all the informa­ tion available.^ We are indebted to Rev. G. T. Reynolds, of the Pittsburg <!^onference, for the plan, and the use of the same; and to Rev. C. G. Hudson, Secretary of our Conference, for favors shown; also, to Rev. W. J.
