Christmas Stollen Historians have traced Christollen, Christ's stollen, back to about the year 1400 in Dresden, Germany. Originally stollen was called Striezel or Struzel, which referred to a braided shape -- a large oval fold- ed in half with tapered ends -- said to repre- sent the Baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothing. Share in some history this Christmas or give it as a gift. Almond Stollen is made without the raisins and candied fruit. Bohemian Christian Loaf It is a 2.5 –3 pound loaf from the Czech lands. Our loaf fea- tures the spices of nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, anise, orange with raisins and walnuts. What makes this bread a centerpiece is its three braids stacked one upon the other. Slovak Kolache is a long rolled loaf filled with walnuts or poppy seed filling, and some- times apricot and plum. This recipe comes from Pastor Kenneth Michnay and is a favorite of many.
