For a shining example of the health of the housing market one only needs to look at the expansion of the Silver Mountain Resort. The second phase of the Silver Mountain Resort/Eagle Crest condominium offering was available in September 2005. In one day 100 units were sold out! This development, other developments (such as a townhouse project in Pinehurst), and existing housing provide a variety of housing opportuni- ties for the Silver Valley. Houses under $100,000 typically will not stay on the market for more than a couple months. From April–Septem- ber 30, 2008, 67 units sold at $140,000 median price. The average rental cost of a 3-bedroom home averages between $600 and $700 a month with few vacancies. For further information on the housing market contact a local Realtor or property management company. EMPLOYMENT RETIREMENT Mining is the traditional economic foundation of Shoshone County. The Silver Valley has become a popular location for retirees. The With the higher silver prices and other development mining continues convenient location to Coeur d’Alene and Spokane, abundant outdoor to play an important role in the county.
