I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters of Billingham Synthonia and I hope they enjoy their afternoon with us. The Synners ended our unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 success on Teesside last month, since when we have struggled for consistency, suffering some very disappointing defeats, most recently at South Shields on Tuesday night. Synthonia have also had mixed fortunes this season but their away form is impressive so there can be no doubt that we are in for another tough game today. LeePaul Scroggins misses today’s game through suspension but his absence is countered by the return from injury of Paul Robinson, who came off the bench for the last 20 minutes on Tuesday. Both sides will be looking for a good performance today in preparation for the FA Vase games next weekend. We have both been drawn at home next Saturday but while we face new opponents in Tadcaster Albion, Synners have an all Northern League clash with Second Division Crook Town. Before then, we make the short journey to Bedlington on Monday evening to take on a Terriers side who have scored 18 goals in their last four home games, yet another hard game! Late defensive lapses cost Whitley dear after they had created sufficient chances to win the game but due in part to an inspired goalkeeping display, they failed to finish off good approach work. The Moor Lane pitch was soft after heavy overnight rain, and combined with the length of the grass it made for a deceptively slippery surface. Whitley looked the better side in an entertaining first half, when both teams created chances but were denied by a combination of top quality defending and goalkeeping.
