USDA Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region Siuslaw National Forest __________________________________________________________________________________ ABOUT THE SIUSLAW NATIONAL FOREST The Siuslaw National Forest is located along the beautiful Oregon Coast and goes inland to the Coast Range mountains. The forest is one of only two national forests located in the lower 48 states to claim oceanfront property. It is a very diverse and productive region extending from Tillamook to Coos Bay. The forest encompasses over 630,000 acres of unique and varying ecosystems. Pacific Coast Scenic Byway Highway 101 runs parallel to the west side of the Forest along the Pacific Ocean with State Highways providing access to Interstate 5. Restoration, Recreation and Partnerships are key to the Forest’s program. For additional information about the Siuslaw National Forest; see our website: http://www.fs.usda.gov/siuslaw/. ABOUT THE SUPERVISOR’S OFFICE (SO) The Supervisor’s Office is located in Corvallis at 4077 S.W. Research Way, Corvallis, OR 97333, 541-750-7000. For more information on Corvallis: http://www.ci.corvallis.or.us/, http://www.visitcorvallis.com/. ABOUT THE DISTRICT COMMUNITIES CENTRAL COAST RANGER DISTRICT (CCRD) WALDPORT, OR The CCRD office in Waldport is located at 1130 Forestry Lane, phone (541) 563-8400. The CCRD district spans approximately 35 miles along the Oregon coast from just north of Waldport, south to Florence and lies primarily from the crest of the Coast Range mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The district’s 479,000 acres are spread over 6 counties and boasts an abundance of camping, hiking, fishing, tide-pooling and sand-play opportunities. Highway 101 connects the duty stations in Waldport, Reedsport and Hebo. Waldport is a small city in Lincoln County, Oregon and has miles of sandy beaches, forest roads, hiking trails, wilderness areas and a picturesque bay. Waldport, whose motto is “Where the forest meets the sea”, is located on the Alsea River and Alsea Bay and boasts fishing and crabbing opportunities. This is the coast treasured by Oregonians and is only a couple hours away from major population centers (Corvallis, Salem, Eugene and Portland). Our renowned Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is just a short drive down the coast. http://www.waldport-chamber.com/ OREGON DUNES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA (ODNRA) REEDSPORT, OR The Oregon Dunes NRA office is located at 855 Hwy 101 in Reedsport, (541) 271-6000. Reedsport is the headquarters for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area - a forty-seven mile stretch of sand dunes running from Florence on the north, to North Bend on the south. Lovely, quiet hiking trails lead through the forest, out onto the dunes, and through the beach grass - straight to the beaches! If hiking isn't your sport, maybe you would like to try your hand at navigating a dune buggy through the many designated areas along the dunes. Reedsport is a city in Douglas County on the central Oregon Coast that was established along the estuary of the Umpqua River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,154. Due to the city’s proximity to the Umpqua River and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Reedsport attracts thousands of visitors every year. Reedsport and the surrounding area is the gateway to miles of undisturbed beaches and the tallest dunes in the nation. The area is USDA-Forest Service is an equal opportunity employer and provider. The Hebo RD includes the Cascade Head Experimental Forest and Scenic Research Area and also the Sand Lake Recreation Area. Hebo RD extends from the top of Mount Hebo (elevation 3,145 feet) down to the Pacific Ocean. The forested ecosystems include very productive young and mature (150 year-old) stands of Sitka spruce-western hemlock and Douglas fir forests with riparian areas and stream banks dominated by red alder. The multiple estuaries on and near the district provide a critical juncture between fresh and salt water, support numerous forms of life, and maintain staging areas for upstream spawning migrations and rearing areas for anadromous fish. Hebo, Oregon is a small hamlet halfway between Tillamook and Lincoln City along Highway 101 on the Oregon coast. Both are full service communities within 25 miles of Hebo on Highway 101.
