6.14 Poplar Grove Reserve Description Location: Poplar Grove Legal description: Lot 2 DP 20430, Lot 9 DP 12115, Lot 3 DP 20215, Lot 1 DP 9820 Size: 1.74 ha Reserve status: Reserve Harriet Place Poplar Grove Play area Physical description This reserve consists of a flat play area which fronts Poplar Grove as well as a pathway which continues past the play area and up a somewhat steep slope to Harriet Place, a small cul de sac off Omata Road. Tangata whenua interests This reserve is within the tribal rohe of Te Atiawa Iwi and Nga Mahanga a Tairi. The area is of historic and cultural significance to Ngati Te Whiti and Te Kotahitanga o Nga Mahanga a Tairi. Land status and history Lot 2 DP 20430 was vested in the New Plymouth District Council in 1999 as recreation reserve subject Reserves Act 1977 upon subdivision under the Resource Management Act 1991 Lot 9 DP 12115 – Under the Counties Amendment Act 1961, this lot is vested in the Chairman, Councillors and Citizens of Taranaki as drainage reserve in 1977 subject to the Reserves and Domains Act 1953. Parks Neighbourhood Reserves Management Plan New Plymouth District Council June 2009 Lot 3 DP 20215 – was vested in the New Plymouth District Council in 1999 as local purpose drainage reserve upon subdivision under the Resource Management Act 1991. Lot 1 DP 9820 – In 1968 this Lot was transferred to the Chairman, Councillors and Inhabitants of Taranaki for the purpose of a public reserve subject to the Reserves Act 1977. It was subsequently vested in the New Plymouth District Council in 1992. Existing improvements Play equipment within the play area includes a swing set, a platform with a slide and a see saw. A park seat is also located next to the playground. Uses and activities This reserve is suitable for child’s play, picnics and walking. Classification Recreation Management objectives and specific policies This reserve will continue to be maintained and developed as an important link from Harriet Place to Poplar Grove, as identified in the council’s cycle strategy, with an area for child’s play at the Poplar Grove end. The ecological areas within this reserve, including a wetland and riparian margins will be maintained and enhanced.
